The Last Weeks of December

Jan 8, 2013 at 6:30am by Dean McDermott

The holidays were pretty busy for the McDermotts. By January 1st all of the spirited shopping, cooking, working and a trip to Tahoe had come to a close. Looking back, while its all kind of a blur, it was an energetic and memorable time.

The week before Christmas, Tori, the kids and I all stopped by Hallmark's Home & Family to spread some holiday cheer, share our Christmas tree selection outing and show viewers how to make my Candy Cane Yule Log.

T gave an excellent tutorial for a fun DIY craft for the holidays, that heck, you could do year round with the right decorations.

Then, Christmas morning was a hilarious time with the kids. Liam and Stella thought Santa had come in and wrecked the place when dropping off presents, but were eager to dive in and see what their good behavior in 2012 earned them. Those kids are a riot. Liam is always full of funny comments, like his wisdom on my 2013 resolution.

After a year filled with every kind of emotion and event - new life and scary moments, chaos and big accomplishments – it was just great to spend a holiday with the family. They’re a wild bunch, this gang, but they always support me, and always make me proud.  What more could you want to carry you into the new year?  Hope your 2013 is off to a great start!

What was the best part about your holidays?

-Dean

      Hi Dean,

The Yule Log looks delicious and quite easy to make! I will have to give it a go sometime soon! Thank you for always sharing your latest recipes. You definitely live up to your title, "The Gourmet Dad".

Go Team Deano & Guy on Rachel v. Guy: Celebrity Cook-off. I'll be rooting for ya!

Best wishes to you, T, and the kids. I hope 2013 is a wonderful year for the McDermott family!

Thank you so much for sharing your "crafty" ideas. I am always looking for unique gifts to give to friends and family. I love to cook, as well, so the Festive Yule Log is perfect. I accidentally made powder with my candy canes, using the blender, and was trying to make Peppermint Bark candy. I made it in the past, but had the already chipped pepperming..needless to say, it did not make a good bark, but now I know I can use the powder to make the log. Thanks so much for your time and creativity in sharing with us. Love your family,

Cloyee Smith I also follow you on twitter!!! A repeat would make my day!
