I race therefore I am.
Ok, maybe not race, but as some of you know, I promised Tori I wouldn't race anymore. I still do track days though. A track day consists of three different levels of riders: Level I (new riders), Level II (intermediate), and Level III (expert). Each group is allotted 20-minute intervals in which they go out in their level, and race against themselves – it’s just you and the time clock. Less competition and less danger than racing. But don't get me wrong, I still pretend I'm Valentino Rossi on my Ducati stuffing Jorge Lorenzo going into the corkscrew at Laguna Seca, only to go on and win the race, and capture the MotoGP points lead.
Wait a second. Sorry, I got sidetracked. This is supposed to be about my new mixer. What does it have to do with racing? Well, when my friend Nicole Dinardo asked me if I was in need of a custom designed mixer, I jumped at the offer. I have two perfectly good mixers, but the artistry and craftsmanship Nicole displays is AMAZING. She made a mixer for Tori that is beautiful.
I instantly turned to my red, white and black Ducati 1098R that I lovingly call Bella Dona. She's gorgeous - fine Italian engineering, with sexy lines and power. Plus mixers help you do things faster, am I right? A lot faster than by hand. I sent Nicole a picture of Bella Dona, and she went to work. When I received my mixer, not only was it a work of genius, but Nicole captured the essence of the bike, and of racing. The mixer looks fast. The first thing I thought was, "do I mix stuff with it, or do I ride it around the kitchen?” It truly encompasses speed. Which brings me to the point where all this comes together. After a long day of pretending to be Valentino Rossi, the first thing I want is ice cream. It's all I crave. It is a welcome indulgence to a long hot day in full leathers.
I can bring my mixer and ingredients to the track with great confidence, and whip up a nice salted caramel ice cream with the help of a little liquid nitrogen and some finesse. Not only will I make a lot of new friends at the track (I know, they want to get to the ice cream), but I look forward to them telling me how FAST I am in an attempt to get their hands on this delicious treat.
The kids love making ice cream with me at home - with liquid nitrogen or with the ice cream attachment for the mixer. The kids come up with the strangest flavor combinations. Bubble gum-Oreo-mint chocolate chip. And you know, it's not that bad. Even if the kids wanted to make tuna fish and marshmallow ice cream, it doesn't matter, as long as you have fun with your family and friends, and get in the kitchen. So keep an eye out for me at a track or kitchen near you.

What's the coolest thing in YOUR kitchen?

The Hubby and I don't really have anything "cool" in our kitchen (aside from some vintage wooden rolling pins that I inherited from my grandmother). We are both disabled and live on a very low income. If I could have one of these, it would be orange with butterflies on it. Regardless of having "cool" things in our kitchen or not, my Hubby and I enjoy cooking together very much. It is one thing that our disabilities allow us to do together. Nothing like making a homemade delicious meal with the one you love and then sitting down to enjoy it together! I love your and Tori's family and your websites. Always brings a bright spot to my day! Keeping cooking with the family and making those memories! :D -
Wow! Quite a mixer! Almost fearsome. I don't know that I have a cool 'thing' in my kitchen. But I think the decor is cool. It's all watermelon. I had collected a lot of watermelon decorations in our former home. And of course once people find out you're collecting you get a lot of that item as a gift. Ha! Right before we moved here my daughter-in-law gave me a watermelon cookie jar. It's sponge painted red on top, green on bottom, and the white and seeds around the middle. I needed to paint my new kitchen and thought about red. But that would make it too dark. My sister suggested I paint it like the cookie jar. And so I did! Kind of quirky, but that's me. Naturally, every where you look in my kitchen there's a watermelon decoration. I accumulated even more after moving here. Think I'll keep it like that a few more years! -
Hi Dean,
Hope you and the family are all well. First off, the headline of this post totally got me. It made me think twice. Thanks for sharing the pics--Liam is getting so big! I am sure he loves tagging along with you to track days.
That mixer is certainly bad ass! The detail that went into is impeccable! I want to see the one they made for Tori too. I wonder about how much it costs to get one customized. That is such a dope mixer! I am sure you'd be proud to show it off.
Could you maybe make a post on how to make your own ice-cream? What a great joint effort to do during summer. Btw I also thoroughly enjoyed pics you posted over Father's Day of your customized ice-cream pints T got you. She is such a sweetheart. She knows you so well. I love you two together.
Best Wishes,

Nice bike, but I love the mixer. My husband is the chef in my house, and he would love another one of those. Very cool for the kitchen. -
My husband got me one for my birthday in Candy apple red. I love it. I have only had it a few weeks and it rarely gets any rest. Love the design on yours. -
LOVE the mixer!!!! LOVE the bike! But I love the mixer more :)
I wish I had more time to cook, work keeps me so busy. I'm out of the house at 7 and not home until 7. By the time a quick light dinner, dishes, laundry, dogs fed & walked, etc. is all done I have little time to have any fun in the kitchen.
One of my fave cakes to make is Dr. Pepper cake! Yummy chocolate, cinnamon, and real Dr. Pepper in it and bonus - the recipe makes for two generously sized bundt cakes.
